Our Violence Reduction Partnership

Our

VRP Model

In 2023, we transitioned from the Home Office named Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) to a newly branded and named Violence Reduction Partnership, which not only brings together the work of our hub and spoke model but incorporates the new statutory duty requirements, which are placed on statutory agencies. This was one of the many changes our partnership experienced across the last financial year (2023-24).

An external review supported Avon and Somerset Violence Reduction Partnership keeping the hub and spoke model. The OPCC is the hub and the five local authority areas are our spokes.

The Avon and Somerset VRP hub and spokes are well established, with their networks constantly growing. Each spoke is engaging and supporting the increasing numbers of children and young people, whilst gaining a clearer understanding of their local need and what matters to their community.

Each Local Authority VRP spoke has their own dedicated Coordinator, who works closely with their specialist Early Intervention Police Sargent and Team and key partners. Together they create their own problem profile in accordance to their areas need and tailor interventions to prevent and reduce serious violence.

The VRP Hub ensures reporting, performance, and evaluations are delivered to understand the overall effectiveness of the Avon and Somerset VRP.

Together with partners they work to implement a sustainable approach to tackling serious violence.
